Help Feed A Balinese Family
Hi Friends and Family of The Yoga Barn,
As the world is changing quicker than we can keep up, we here at BaliSpirit & The Yoga Barn recognize what you might be going through and how important you are to us and to Bali!
We may be distant and unable to connect in the ways we are used to, but we can reach out to you digitally, extending our open hearts to you, and acknowledge that we are all in this together.
As we sit in our individual homes in this time of isolation, the introspection that has inevitably taken over us has amplified the value of our global connection and, the reality that, together, no matter how near or far we are from each other, we can collectively make a difference in this world.
For those of you who know and appreciate Bali, we have set up an opportunity for you to contribute to the future health and wellbeing of the Balinese in these times of social distancing and the impending economic recession, via our Balispirit and Yoga Barn channels.
Many of us are lucky enough to call this mama island of Bali our home and many of you have visited time and time again. It is the welcoming smiles and warm open hearts of the Balinese people that endears the island to us.
Just as in your home countries, hundreds of thousands of Indonesians and Balinese have lost their jobs as a result of the loss of tourism. We estimate that over 90% of restaurants, shops and accommodation have been shut - with no clear opening date past June 1 in sight.
The humble homestays are empty and the streets are devoid of customers. Those who make their living renting scooters all have all their bikes parked, the drivers are no longer driving, the cleaners have no bed sheets or pool towels to wash, and the Banjar Gamelan, Kecak and Legong performances, a staple culture keeper and income stream for many low income Balinese, are no longer happening. Our vital tourism industry is now entirely dead – there are no other jobs available for locals in Bali.
We know that many of you have been asking for ways to support the Balinese. In response, we at BaliSpirit and The Yoga Barn have created “Essential Care Kits” for those families who find themselves at the brink of destitution, incapable of caring for themselves and their extended families, a beautiful aspect of this culture.
We have already given away 250 kits and supplied 123 baby care kits to 250 families as a result of this self-started initiative from our staff. It is our wish to donate more within the villages of our staff over the coming months. With your help, we can make this possible.
