YOGA BARN BOOK LAUNCH INSPIRES UBUD WRITERS TO “CAUSE NO HARM”

BALI, INDONESIA October 8, 2011: Author and educator, Richard Pursell, gave an inspiring talk for Ubud Writers and Readers Festival (UWF) guests at the Yoga Barn, calling on his audience to “do some yoga”, and take greater responsibility for each other and the environment through a “Cause No Harm” philosophy. “When we think positively and for the good of all, then we have hope for a sustainable future,” Pursell asserted in front of over 40 visitors. The event was also cosponsored by the BaliSpirit Group.

Reading excerpts from “Cause No Harm: A Handbook for Humanity,” at this its official release, Pursell made passionate appeals for the overturning of apathy , which has locked most societies into an ideological freeze. Pursell suggested that more people should instead join a world-wide movement for social justice, civil rights, human rights, and democracy.

“This is a time for action; time for us to rise up and do something” Pursell attested, “we need to bring ourselves back together as a community.”

Throughout the two-hour event, Pursell creatively captivated his audience by peppering his seminar presentation/book reading with powerpoint slides, short video clips, and anecdotes to illustrate the practical power of his ideas.

In the spirit of the Writers Festival’s theme, Cultivating the Land Within, Pursell also underscored the importance of self-belief and developing a positive attitude inside the individual, “Cultivate within you the words and the deeds you have to offer,” urged Pursell, “It’s up to you to determine what it is you do to unfold how you want to cause no harm.”

Finally, Pursell offered some feasible suggestions and steps for people to integrate Cause No Harm’s simple message into their lives. “Change your negative thoughts, your health, diet, exercise, sleep patterns, and do some yoga!” Pursell advised. “Whatever label you use, whether you’re in a yoga studio or if you’re a dance instructor, become an agent of change.”

Social entrepreneur, Meghan Pappenheim, cofounded BaliSpirit after the 2003 Bali bombings, sharing the UWF’s economic recovery vision for the island. BaliSpirit has since blossomed into a holistic registry and 8 holistic businesses as well as the BaliSpirit Festival, which is guided by what Pappenheim calls, “awakening to one’s own expansion.” The Yoga Barn is dedicated to authenticity of technique, purity of product and devotion to optimum health and wellbeing, which has resulted in the development of a healing environment like no other in Bali. ###
