The Yoga Barn-Taksu Spa Yoga Mala Partnership Raises 25 Million IDR

BALI, Indonesia – September 27, 2011~ In honor of Global Yoga Mala day, the Yoga Barn in Ubud and its event partner, Taksu Spa raised a total of 25 million IDR (roughly $2860 USD), to support two local Bali charities, it was announced today. 14 million IDR ($1,600) was raised on September 24th alone, from nearly 200 Yoga Barn guests. The money raised from both venues will support the Ayo! Kita Bicara HIV/AIDS education initiative and the Bumi Sehat natural birthing clinic.

Praising the Yoga Mala collaboration’s success, Charley Patton, Partner and CoFounder of the Yoga Barn, emphasized the transformational power of yoga, “This weekend, we combined yoga and conscious community action as a force for positive change.”

The Yoga Barn, and its partner Taksu Spa, devoted an entire day of special programming each as part of the Yoga Mala; which included a wide variety of yoga, dance, meditation, and live entertainment activities.

In the spirit of honoring heroism, Patton publicized news of Bumi Sehat Director, Robin Lim’s, selection as a CNN Hero of the Year Top 10 finalist, and encouraged all guests to vote for Lim, who could win a $250,000 grant if she is selected as the winner. Lim was in attendance to support the event, and participated in Yoga Mala activities.

The positive atmosphere at the Yoga Barn was often described as a small-scale version of the annual BaliSpirit Festival, which in 2011 attracted several thousand people to Ubud. “We all felt a lot of heart and a lot of energy,” said one guest, “It was like a Spirit Festival family reunion.”

Using the international appeal of the Global Mala event, the money raised at the Yoga Barn will go to a local HIV/AIDS outreach initiative, Ayo! Kita Bicara HIV & AIDS (Let’s Talk About HIV & AIDS). Patton had described those involved in this program and Bumi Sehat as “Everyday heroes.”

The event also gave guests a sneak peek of The Yoga Barn’s new expansion efforts. Construction on new facilities have been underway since July. Work is estimated to reach completion by November 1, 2011. The new Yoga Barn will not be accessible by motor vehicle, preserves 80 percent of the land it is built on, and uses recycled materials.

The Yoga Barn is dedicated to authenticity of technique, purity of product and devotion to optimum health and wellbeing, which has resulted in the development of a healing environment like no other in Bali.
